Creating a More Diverse and Inclusive Community.
Mrs. Vieira-Marques uses contemporary art images, poetry, texts and advertising to lead a conversation towards critical thinking, sense of belonging and inclusivity. She believes that an equitable society of thoughtful and respectful citizens begins with an engaged community that values diverse perspectives and has practice in seeing and valuing each other. Her conversations are prompted by a methodology of open-ended questions, using the principles of the Visual Thinking Strategy*. These questions value diverse perspectives and help the facilitator to build on each others’ ideas to support critical thinking. Mrs Vieira-Marques explores ideas of race, identity, power and equity by showing works produced by artists from different backgrounds (racial, economical and cultural), encouraging the audience to provide logical and factual support for their statements. Her inspiring conversations open a window to a bigger world where cooperation, respect, and tolerance for the views of others is practiced as a way to live more respectfully and peacefully with one another.
